About The Position

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is seeking a qualified candidate for a position focused on DNA and Forensic Genetic Genealogy (FGG) testing. The role involves prioritizing and establishing an inventory of suitable cases for testing, extrapolating complex FGG data to create manageable investigative plans, and conducting follow-up investigations with Homicide Cold Case Detectives. The candidate will also be responsible for fostering strong relationships with external partners, maintaining current knowledge of DNA and FGG costs and techniques, updating supervisors on investigation progress, and entering cases into the Violent Criminal Apprehension System (ViCAP).

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree
• Strong analytical, communication and data analysis skills
• Knowledge of criminal investigation tools and databases
• Experience in criminal investigations/Crime analysis preferred

Responsibilities

• Prioritize and establish an inventory of all suitable cases within the CMPD for DNA and Forensic Genetic Genealogy (FGG) testing.
• Extrapolate complex FGG data from reports in order to make a more manageable investigative plan.
• Conduct follow up investigations as needed with the Homicide Cold Case Detectives.
• Foster strong working relationships with outside partners, for example, vendor labs and SAKI partners.
• Maintain the most current knowledge of DNA and FGG costs and techniques.
• Update supervisors quarterly on the progress of all Forensic Genealogy investigations.
• Enter all criteria cases into the Violent Criminal Apprehension System (ViCAP).
