Pay $48,600 - $60,800 a year Job type Full-time Shift and schedule Monday to Friday Full job description Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $48,600 - Midpoint: $60,800 (Salaried E7) Department/Organization: 204905 - Curation Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm Job Summary: The Collection Manager oversees the preservation, documentation, and overall management of museum collections. Records loan in database. Boxes and ships loans with loan invoice, mailing label, and customs forms for international shipments. Interacts with internal and external donors of archival collections. Additional Department Summary: Manages the day-to-day operations and care of the UA Museums Invertebrate Paleontology Collection housed in Mary Harmon Bryant Hall. Reports to the Curator of Paleontology. Reorganizes the invertebrate paleontology collection, consisting of ~400,000 specimens. Sorts, cleans/prepares in the lab, identifies, rehouses, labels, adds to database, and organizes cataloged and currently un-cataloged specimens. Helps prepare museum exhibit(s). Supervises several undergraduate students per semester. Develops workflows. Develops strategies for the organization and storage of specimens. Ensures that proper archival housing of specimens and modern collections management techniques are used. Performs all activities in accordance with best museum practices and the UA Museums Collections Management Policy. Continuation of this position is contingent on the availability of funding. Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in museum collections curation and/or museum collections management; OR master's degree and some experience in museum collections curation and/or museum collections management. Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions. Skills and Knowledge: Strong organization skills. Attention to detail. Knowledge of taxonomic rank and nomenclature of fossil invertebrates, personal computers, Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access), and collections management software (preferably Arctos). Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to supervise students. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in paleontology (geology/biology track) or museum studies and one (1) year of collections care experience involving invertebrate fossils. Student supervision experience. Knowledge of fossil preparation. Museum studies certificate.
