About the position

The Collections and Foreclosure Paralegal role at Becker is designed to provide essential support to attorneys in processing substantive legal work related to collections and foreclosure cases. This position requires a thorough understanding of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the New Jersey Condominium Act, and related state laws. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include preparing initial demand letters, notices of intent to foreclose, and liens. Communication with delinquent owners through phone, email, and letter correspondence is a key aspect of this role, as is processing payments and preparing balance due letters, payoff letters, and estoppels. In addition to these responsibilities, the paralegal will prepare and generate complaint packages and all necessary foreclosure motions. This includes the preparation of stipulations for settlement, motions for summary judgment, and certifications of amounts due and services rendered. The role also involves calendaring motion return dates for attorneys and confirming hearing dates and times. Post-judgment enforcement tasks, such as preparing writs of execution and wage garnishments, are also part of the job. The paralegal will maintain communication with clients regarding the status of actions and prepare monthly status reports to keep all parties informed. Responsibilities

  • Provide support to attorneys with the processing of substantive legal work related to collections and foreclosure cases.
  • Prepare initial demand letters, notices of intent to foreclose, and liens.
  • Communicate with delinquent owners via phone, email, and letter correspondence as needed.
  • Process payments from owners and prepare balance due letters, payoff letters, and estoppels.
  • Prepare and generate complaint packages and all foreclosure motions.
  • Prepare and generate stipulations for settlement if necessary.
  • Prepare and generate motions for summary judgment, including certifications of amounts due and services rendered.
  • Calendar motion return dates for attorneys and follow up to confirm date/time of hearing.
  • Prepare and generate final judgment applications and/or motions.
  • Prepare and generate post-judgment enforcement documents, including writs of execution and wage garnishments.
  • Prepare cover letters to the judge and hearing folders for attorneys.
  • Maintain communication with clients regarding the status of actions and prepare monthly status reports.
  • Pull mortgage/satisfaction searches and prepare answers/affirmative defenses for bank actions.
  • Monitor the status of lender's actions.

Requirements

  • Paralegal Certificate or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a paralegal role.
  • Proficient in the use of technology applications such as case management software, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player and assist others in the department as needed.
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Conscientious regarding work completion, deadlines, time management, and attendance.
