About the position

The Part-time Collections Associate at the University of Massachusetts Lowell will support the physical and electronic library collections. This role involves project-based tasks that may change as projects are completed, with a focus on providing meaningful access to information and resources. The position requires effective communication with library staff and a commitment to customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Support physical and electronic library collections.
  • Reformat legacy electronic texts into new systems.
  • Evaluate gifts of books following established standards.
  • Participate in collections projects such as inventory and book shifting.
  • Unpack and check in new book shipments.
  • Communicate effectively with various library employees, often over email and Microsoft Teams.
  • Promote the University's commitment to customer service.

Requirements

  • Evidence of at least one year of college coursework.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm for learning new software and technical skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with advanced search and faceting features in library catalogs, e-commerce systems, and internet search engines.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a library environment.
  • Associate's degree or greater.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
