About the position

The Collections System Operator is responsible for performing field operations related to the sanitary collection system, including inspections, maintenance, and new installations. This role ensures effective facility performance in compliance with regulatory standards and involves operating various sewer equipment safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and emergency inspections of the sanitary sewer collection system as determined by the CMOM program and/or management.
  • Conduct maintenance activities as directed by the Chief Collections Operator and/or management staff.
  • Operate sewer equipment safely and efficiently, including rodding machines, pumps, CCTV equipment, and high-pressure flushing equipment.
  • Perform grounds keeping tasks such as snow removal, landscaping, and easement clearing within the WWTF and collection system.
  • Conduct preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment according to vendor specifications.
  • Perform routine lubrication of equipment and motors, replacing oil reserves and obtaining necessary parts through established procedures.
  • Engage in cross-training aspects of Collection System operations, maintenance, and safety duties.
  • Follow established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures while performing work.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, electromechanical, and hydraulic equipment using tools and gauges.
  • Perform repairs on departmental equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, computer, software, and electrical components.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record is required.
  • Commercial driver's license (CDL) is required.
  • Basic understanding of collection system operations, including Collections System Operator Certificate, NASCO's Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP), and Manhole Assessment Certification Program (MACP).
  • OSHA ten-hour training and Traffic flagger certification are required.
  • Strong skills in reading, math, writing, verbal communication, and computer skills.
