About the position
The Collector at SunWest Credit Union is responsible for managing delinquent loan accounts, ensuring compliance with credit and collections policies, and optimizing collections while maintaining positive member relationships. This role involves direct member engagement, developing workout plans, and coordinating legal proceedings when necessary.
Responsibilities
- Engage with members experiencing delinquency and support them through various situations.
- Ensure compliance with credit and collections policies and procedures.
- Contact high balance and/or delinquent members to identify reasons for delinquency.
- Assist members in developing plans to bring accounts current.
- Develop workout plans and collect on overdue accounts.
- Maintain up-to-date system information including call notes and legal activity.
- Review billings from attorneys and vendors for collection work.
- Authorize legal proceedings as necessary.
- Review and prepare recommendations for accounts to be written off as uncollectable.
- Determine when to compromise and settle balances or initiate foreclosure/repossession proceedings.
- Serve as liaison with attorneys and agencies for repossession processes.
- File claims and attend hearings related to bankruptcy filings.
- Perform skip tracing functions to locate borrowers or collateral.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Two years or more of experience in collections with a financial institution.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong personal and professional leadership skills.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software programs.
- Familiarity with FDCPA and TCPA regulations affecting collections.
- Knowledge of Chapter 7 and 13 Bankruptcy rules and required filings.
