About the position

The Interim College Academic Counselor at Aspire Public Schools is responsible for overseeing the delivery of academic counseling services in assigned secondary schools. This role involves implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the academic needs of all students, promoting student success through advocacy and collaboration, and supporting post-secondary achievement in alignment with students' social-emotional learning (SEL) needs. The counselor will also train College Advisors, develop individual student plans, and provide school-wide system support.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of all academic counseling services in assigned secondary school(s).
  • Implement a comprehensive school counseling program based on student data analysis.
  • Advocate for and collaborate with students to promote their success.
  • Provide preventive services and respond to identified student needs.
  • Collaborate with SEL Counselors, educators, and Site Leadership to support student post-secondary achievement.
  • Train College Advisors in the delivery of guidance curriculum.
  • Develop individual student plans and provide school-wide system support.
  • Organize family activities and programming to deliver academic and career counseling services.
  • Coordinate school-wide opportunities for students and families to engage with college representatives.
  • Support students and families in finding post-secondary pathways and enrichment opportunities.
  • Monitor student academic performance and assist with interventions.
  • Attend IEP, 504, attendance, MTSS, and SST meetings to present graduation pathways and requirements.
  • Communicate student progress and intervention plans to families.
  • Educate and counsel students on dual-enrollment processes.
  • Assist administration with scheduling and planning for credit recovery and summer school.
  • Prepare and deliver college, career, and academic advising workshops.
  • Prepare and interpret student data to inform differentiated programming.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Aspire Public Schools' mission and values.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Pupil Personnel Services credential in School Counseling required.
  • Experience working with parents and families from under-resourced communities.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation and low-income students.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current state and federal laws governing counseling.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary program admissions and financial aid requirements.
  • Knowledge of various graduation pathways and requirements available to students.
  • Knowledge of college and career readiness tools (e.g., Naviance).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with academic counseling in a school setting.
  • Familiarity with SEL frameworks and practices.
