About the position

The College and Career Coach position at SOWELA Technical Community College is a part-time, temporary role focused on providing essential coaching services to students identified by the Career Compass Project manager. The primary responsibility of the coach is to facilitate one-on-one college and career coaching sessions, assisting students in their transition to a college environment. This role involves leading summer workshops, tours, and orientations for student participants, ensuring they are well-prepared for their academic journey. The coach will meet with student participants during their senior year of high school, over the summer, and at least twice each semester once the student is enrolled in college. Monitoring student progress in classes on a monthly basis is crucial, as the coach will proactively provide interventions and resources to support students as needed. Participation in Beyond Graduation training conducted by Career Compass is also a requirement, along with obtaining FERPA waivers to release information to Career Compass. Additionally, the coach will be responsible for updating the database with relevant student data and completing monthly progress reports within a prescribed timeframe. Building and maintaining ongoing, sustained relationships with students is essential, as is developing a complete understanding of each student's unique situation, background, and needs. The role may require travel to high schools to meet with student participants, and other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • One year experience working with students in a K-12 school, college, university or other similar setting required.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and networked personal computers required.
  • Proficiency in or ability to become proficient in a variety of software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations needed to complete job tasks required.
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing job duties to meet deadlines required.
  • Ability to maintain interpersonal professional working relationships at all levels - students, peers, and Executives required.
