The College and Career Coach at the School City of Hammond plays a crucial role in guiding high school students towards successful post-secondary pathways. This position is integral to the High School team and involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at facilitating students' transitions into post-secondary education, employment, or military enlistment. The College and Career Coach must be proactive and self-motivated, staying informed about legislative changes in high school education, particularly the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) Redesign High School legislation. This role requires the cultivation of relationships with local businesses to create work-based learning opportunities that align with educational standards and best practices in school counseling as outlined by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and Indiana School Counselor Association (ISCA). The College and Career Coach will continuously monitor and interpret changes in legislation and guidelines set forth by the IDOE, ensuring that coaching strategies and initiatives are aligned with these standards. This includes staying current on work-based learning policies and aligning them with course standards. The coach will also engage with local businesses and organizations to establish partnerships that facilitate work-based learning opportunities for students, collaborating with industry leaders to design and implement programs that provide real-world experiences while meeting educational requirements. In addition to developing and maintaining business partnerships, the College and Career Coach will implement school counseling best practices to provide comprehensive support to students. This includes offering guidance on academic, career, and personal/social development to ensure holistic student success. The coach will work closely with students to develop individualized academic and career plans, monitor their progress, and provide resources to ensure timely completion of graduation pathways. Furthermore, the coach will assist in organizing business, industry, labor, and post-secondary speakers and tours, collect and disseminate information on educational and employment opportunities, and seek grant opportunities to support career and technical education goals. The role also involves maintaining accurate documentation of student work-based learning and reporting this information to the state, as well as developing a long-range plan for College & Career Readiness that encompasses K-12 students, staff, and community needs.
