About the position

In the College and Career Coach (CACC) position, the College Success Foundation (CSF) AmeriCorps member will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering college and career readiness lessons specifically tailored for 8th grade middle school students at one of CSF's partner schools. This position is designed to contribute significantly to the development and growth of the school's college-going culture, thereby strengthening students' aspirations towards higher education. The CACC will engage in collaborative efforts with school staff, community partners, and CSF staff to create a supportive environment for students. The successful applicant will be responsible for implementing a variety of educational strategies aimed at enhancing students' understanding of college readiness. This includes direct interaction with middle school students, where the member will deliver curricula focused on college and career readiness, as well as provide support services that aim to bolster students' college aspirations. The role also involves administering pre and post assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs being implemented. Additionally, the CACC will support the efforts of parents, guardians, and school staff in building and strengthening the college-going culture within the school. This collaborative approach is essential to ensure that students are provided with the best opportunities to be college-ready. The member will also participate in mandatory monthly development meetings, which are designed to offer ongoing training and career development opportunities, preparing them for life after their service with AmeriCorps.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver college and career readiness lessons to 8th grade middle school students.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, community partners, and CSF staff.
  • Administer pre and post assessments to evaluate the efficacy of the college and career readiness curricula.
  • Support parent/guardian and school staff efforts to strengthen the school's college-going culture.
  • Participate in mandatory monthly member development meetings for ongoing training and career development.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's preferred in education, sociology, psychology, social work, public service or a related field.
  • Clearance with required CNCS and CSF background checks (Washington State Patrol criminal registry, FBI fingerprint check, National Sex Offender Registry background check, drug test).
  • Ability to commit to a term of service for a minimum of 1700 hours.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently and comply with all standards of supervision personnel and related programs and services.
  • Knowledge of college readiness, awareness, and planning.
  • Ability to relate well with diverse populations and age groups, particularly with young people aged 12-14.
