About the position

The College and Career Prep Teacher at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf is responsible for providing educational instruction to Deaf students from Early Childhood through Secondary levels. This full-time position emphasizes teamwork, curriculum planning, and the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) to support the diverse needs of students. The role requires proficiency in American Sign Language and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) in collaboration with parents and school districts.
  • Plan and deliver instructional activities that align with the educational mission and philosophy of the school.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers and support personnel to create an integrated instructional program.
  • Utilize an exploratory and experiential approach to teaching and learning.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current research and literature in Deaf education and general education.
  • Participate in professional development workshops and seminars.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate the diverse communication needs of students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Deaf Education or a related field required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Possession of or eligibility for appropriate certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language is required.
  • Experience working with Deaf children in Early Childhood, Elementary, or Secondary education is preferred.
  • Understanding of communication principles that emphasize full accessibility in the school environment.
  • Knowledge of normal child growth and development.
