About the position

The Athletic Trainer position is responsible for providing athletic training services to athletes at various educational institutions and events. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of athletic injuries, treatment protocols, and effective communication with healthcare professionals, athletes, and their families. The trainer will work under the supervision of the Sports Medicine Medical Director and other management personnel, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and standards while delivering high-quality care to athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides athletic training services to athletes at appointed high school, college, and other sites as required.
  • Utilizes appropriate clinical techniques to effectively assess and treat athletic injuries.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of diagnosis and conditions seen in the profession of Athletic Training.
  • Selects, performs, and interprets the results of ATC examinations of appropriate systems.
  • Accurately performs and interprets standardized assessments as determined by appropriateness of athlete.
  • Identifies actual or potential problems impacting the Athletic Training regimen and overall care.
  • Establishes specific treatment plans and goals based on initial assessment results.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians, rehab staff, parents, athletic directors, coaches, and strength coaches.
  • Documents athlete status in designated EMR or equivalent.
  • Provides timely payroll information.
  • Supervises and mentors new team members, Graduate Assistants, and students.
  • Completes annual mandatory training and competency reviews.
  • Represents the organization as an outreach team member and attends coaches/parent meetings.
  • Provides athletic training services at sponsored sporting events.
  • Seeks related tasks during downtime and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinates pre- and post-participation exams and acquires protective equipment for athletes as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and complies with healthcare delivery policies.
  • Assists schools with management of infection risks and protocols in athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training, or Physical Education with Athletic Training emphasis.
  • Current South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate required.
  • BOC certification from NATA required.
  • Knowledge of office equipment and data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of patient equipment such as vitals, suction, and defibrillators.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in athletic training is a plus.
