About the position

The academy coach will serve as the coordinator of all College and Career Academy initiatives for all five high schools. The academy coach will work with the district office's College and Career Readiness and Special Ed Departments and building administration, faculty, and stakeholders to plan, implement, and sustain activities and initiatives that support the outcomes of College and Career Readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan.
  • Carries out such additional duties as required or as conditions necessitate.
  • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Serve as liaison between the school and the district Executive Director of College and Career Readiness.
  • Serve as the building contact person for business and community engagement.
  • Coordinate, implement, and serve on the Academy Support Teams which support and sustain College and Career Academies.
  • Attend regularly scheduled academy coach meetings, community-based organization meetings, and other meetings for networking and partnerships.
  • Coordinate in conjunction with building counselors job shadowing, student internships, teacher externships, guest speakers, field trips, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Work with guidance and administration to coordinate workplace certifications and post-secondary participation through dual enrollment, articulated credit, and other means of acceleration opportunities for students.
  • Promote and participate in professional learning communities within the school.
  • Assist the Director of College and Career Readiness in identifying, pursuing, and implementing programs and grants which support the purposes of College and Career Academies.
  • Gather, analyze, and communicate academy data; review data to ensure equitable distribution of resources among academies.
  • Support the master scheduling process which develops and updates scheduling of students for proper placement and purity in academies.
  • Assist with aligning district initiatives with the School Improvement Plan.
  • Assist staff in developing and implementing curriculum, instructional strategies, materials, and assessments aimed at achievement of district-wide college and career readiness benchmarks.
  • Assist in coordinating and providing staff development on current best practices in education including project-based learning, problem-based case study learning, assessment development/interpretation, reading and writing across the curriculum, and other strategies that are effective with a school's population.
  • Educate and promote the National Standards of Practice for Academies (NSOP), including documentation that demonstrates mastery of NSOP for the purpose of achieving 'Model Status' in a national site review.
  • Keep abreast of new materials, current research trends, techniques and ideas through reading professional materials and attendance at seminars, conferences, and workshops within and outside of the district.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Previous successful experience as a secondary teacher or counselor.
  • Training or course work in the administration and analysis of assessments and the use of data to guide instructional practice and intervention.
  • Secondary Teaching Certificate.
  • Administrative Certificate preferred.
