About the position

The College and Career Coach at Ombudsman Educational Services plays a vital role in guiding students through their career and postsecondary education exploration. This position focuses on helping students develop essential employment skills, secure job placements, and become independent, productive members of the community. The coach collaborates with teachers, site leaders, and school district personnel to implement tactical post-secondary plans, ensuring students gain the necessary skills for success in their future endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Building strategic relationships with colleges and work-site programs to support student success.
  • Meeting with local community organizations to develop job shadowing, internships, and work opportunities for students.
  • Guiding students through the postsecondary planning process and providing direct interaction on academic and career goals.
  • Assisting students in locating resources for financial assistance for post-secondary education.
  • Motivating students to meet their academic goals and develop job readiness skills.
  • Completing Education and Career Action Plans (ECAP) for each student to chart their academic and career goals.
  • Using Needs Assessment Survey results to shape advisory sessions for students.
  • Developing and reviewing student course schedules to align with future plans.
  • Monitoring academic progress and goals weekly for each student in collaboration with the instructional team.
  • Assisting with student enrollment, data entry, and maintaining student files according to procedures.
  • Supporting a collaborative environment among students, parents, and community members.
  • Developing a career and post-secondary education library and maintaining an up-to-date bulletin board of opportunities.
  • Keeping up to date with research-based practices and developments in the field.
  • Responding constructively to feedback and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in school counseling or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience in alternative educational services for at-risk students.
  • Knowledge of working with students with diverse needs and severe learning or emotional behavioral disorders.
  • Experience with students with IEPs.
  • Strong knowledge of college board resources.
  • Proficiency in motivating students and conducting critical conversations to help them achieve their goals.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and database entry.
