About the position

The Instructional Designer II at the College of Veterinary Medicine will collaborate with educators, administrators, and subject-matter experts to develop and maintain instructional materials across various delivery formats. This role involves providing training and consultation to enhance teaching practices, offering tier 2 support for educational technologies, and ensuring the quality and accessibility of course content for the Veterinary Medicine Program. The position requires advanced knowledge in instructional design and the ability to work independently while engaging in systematic design processes.

Responsibilities

  • Consults and guides faculty and program managers in the systematic design of instruction, including analysis, outcome selection and alignment, curriculum mapping, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Assists educators in the hands-on development of course content and multimedia.
  • Trains educators in effective teaching strategies, educational technologies, and instructional design principles via workshops and consultations.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in educational technologies for faculty and staff.
  • Explores and implements innovative educational technologies and instructional design software to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
  • Develops multimedia educational and training materials in various formats to support teaching and learning.
  • Develops assessment tools, including quizzes, exams, and rubrics, to measure student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborates with other instructional designers and educators to promote continuous improvement in veterinary education.
  • Conducts evaluations and assessments of instructional materials and courses to ensure alignment with best practices and accessibility standards.
  • Stays informed about current trends and research in instructional design and veterinary education to improve practices.
  • Engages with and leads team projects to identify needs and implement solutions.
  • Provides resolution of technical concerns from faculty and staff via various communication methods.
  • Performs front-end systems administration tasks in the learning management system and other educational technology tools.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in instructional design, experience design, or a related field.
  • Two years of professional experience developing instructional or training materials.
  • Professional experience providing customer support and/or systems administration.
  • Proficiency with learning management systems and instructional content authoring tools.
  • Expert knowledge of learning management systems and web-based applications for education.
  • Expert knowledge of principles of learning and models of instructional design.
  • Skill in project management, team participation, and team leadership.
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and modern web-design practices.
  • Proficiency with principles of web accessibility.
  • Knowledge of industry integration specifications for systems (i.e., LTI, QTI).
  • Proficiency with classroom technologies for presenting and web broadcasting.
  • Proficiency with mobile technologies.
  • Skilled at using computers and software, including operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to find creative and novel approaches to problems.
  • Ability to maintain up-to-date and accurate records.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to learn new systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with simulation software and virtual reality tools.
  • Familiarity with assessment authoring and delivery tools.
