About the position
The College Supervisor will be part of the Education & Child Development at Whittier College. The position is based in Whittier, CA.
Responsibilities
- Ensure, through observations and follow-up conferencing, that teacher candidates progress through sixteen-week student teaching assignments.
- Write appropriate lesson plans using the department template, incorporating students' prior academic knowledge, learning activities, assessments, and developmental considerations.
- Understand the Teaching Performance Assessments and Instructional Cycles 1 and 2, providing support during these cycles.
- Apply techniques of classroom management to ensure the best possible learning environment for students.
- Observe lessons and complete all required evaluation forms.
- Confer with the candidate after each observation.
- Communicate with Master Teacher and school principal about responsibilities and paperwork due throughout the student teaching assignment.
- Ensure that each Master teacher completes all necessary paperwork related to their role during the candidates' assignment.
- Attend all College Supervisors' Meetings to stay updated on changes to the college's student teaching program and CTC requirements.
- Attend one adjunct-faculty meeting per semester for professional development.
Requirements
- Five years of successful teaching experience in a public school.
- A teaching credential in subject area(s) related to credential programs offered at Whittier College.
- Excellent organization and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work professionally with the public, as well as college and district students, faculty, administrators.
