About the position

The position involves operating a tractor/trailer for the transportation of freight while adhering to safety regulations and compliance with federal, state, and local laws. The driver must be skilled in handling various terrains and environmental conditions, ensuring the security of cargo and equipment, and conducting necessary inspections before and after trips. The role requires a commitment to safety and professionalism in service delivery to customers and the public.

Responsibilities

• Operate all types of equipment to perform safety functions including manual transmission and chaining tires.
• Safely operate a tractor/trailer in compliance with Company, Federal, State, and Local laws.
• Maintain records in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Ensure the safe and legal transportation of hazardous materials.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer.
• Check gauges and visual indicators for malfunctions and ensure seals or locks on trailers are intact.
• Report maintenance problems to Fleet Services and/or supervision promptly.
• Verify unit numbers against paperwork and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
• Utilize in-cab technology, including electronic logs, as required.
• Drive different schedules and work the dock based on business needs.
• Provide professional and courteous service to customers and the general public.
• Assist with Local Pick Up and Delivery routes, Hub/Regional runs, and dock work as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent education and experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age per FMCSA regulations with 1 year of driving experience.
• Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Reside within 75 miles of the domiciled terminal or work assignment.
• Hazmat, Tanker, and Doubles endorsements required.
• Ability to drive a tractor trailer conforming to FMCSA requirements.
• Stable employment history preferred.
• Ability to operate a forklift (minimum 7,500 lb. vehicle).
• Ability to push or pull a loaded pallet jack and/or hand truck with a minimum load of 70 lbs.
• Must be capable of dropping/hooking and coupling trailers, involving cranking landing gear and pulling 5th wheel pin.
• Must provide an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Familiarity with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA rules and regulations is required.
• Must pass a FMCSA required medical exam and a road test.
• Ability to meet FMCSA's requirements to speak and read English.
• Must be able to lift approximately 70 lbs. or more as required by job functions.

• Experience in high volume environments with tight time constraints.
