About the position

The Combo Driver position at Estes Express Lines involves operating various types of equipment to transport freight safely and efficiently. The role requires adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, including FMCSA guidelines, while ensuring the security of cargo and equipment. Drivers will conduct inspections, maintain records, and provide professional service to customers, with responsibilities that may include local pick-up and delivery, dock work, and occasional over-the-road driving based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Operate all types of equipment to perform safety functions, including manual transmission and chaining tires.
• Safely operate a tractor/trailer in the transportation of freight in compliance with regulations.
• Maintain records in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Comply with requirements for the safe transportation of hazardous materials.
• Ensure the security of equipment and cargo.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailer.
• Check gauges and visual indicators for malfunctions and ensure seals or locks on trailers are intact.
• Report maintenance problems to Fleet Services and/or supervision promptly.
• Verify unit numbers against paperwork and report discrepancies to the supervisor.
• Use in-cab technology, including electronic logs, as required.
• Drive different schedules and work the dock based on business needs.
• Provide professional and courteous service to customers and the public.
• Assist with local pick-up and delivery routes, hub/regional runs, and dock work as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent education and experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age per FMCSA regulations with 1 year of driving experience.
• Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
• Reside within 75 miles of the domiciled terminal or work assignment.
• Hazmat, Tanker, and Doubles endorsements required.
• Ability to drive a tractor trailer in compliance with FMCSA requirements.
• Stable employment history preferred.
• Ability to operate a forklift (minimum 7,500 lb. vehicle).
• Ability to lift and move a minimum of 70 lbs.
• Familiarity with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA regulations.
• Pass a FMCSA required medical exam and road test.
• Ability to read, speak, and understand English.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs).
• Knowledge of local routes and traffic patterns.
