About the position

The Combustion Engineering Lead at Florida Turbine Technologies (FTT) is a pivotal role within the engineering department, responsible for overseeing the design, analysis, development, and test validation of gas turbine combustors. This position requires a highly skilled technical leader who will supervise a team of combustion engineers and technicians, guiding them through the complexities of combustion system development. The role involves direct engagement in the development of state-of-the-art turbomachinery, ensuring that the combustion systems meet the rigorous demands of flight-certified platforms. The successful candidate will contribute to the establishment of best practices in computational simulation for both gaseous and variable viscosity liquid fueled combustion systems, taking ownership of the team's results that directly impact program deliverables. In addition to technical leadership, the Combustion Engineering Lead will be responsible for fostering the growth and development of engineers within the team, ensuring they are equipped to execute combustion system development effectively. This includes overseeing the design, testing, qualification, and fielding processes, while also engaging in hands-on activities related to test setup and instrumentation. The role is critical in maintaining FTT's reputation for engineering excellence and innovation in the aerospace sector, particularly in the development of advanced combustion systems for military and commercial applications.

Responsibilities

  • Direct combustion system development of complex state-of-the-art turbomachinery.
  • Guide and develop highly skilled engineers in the execution of combustion system development, including design, test, qualification, and fielding of flight-certified platforms.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices in computational simulation of gaseous and variable viscosity liquid fueled combustion systems.
  • Take ownership of the team's results as it directly supports the program deliverables.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in combustion system analysis, CFD, and test correlation.
  • Proficiency in classical combustion analysis, computational simulations, and combustor/rig testing.
  • Highly skilled in the combustion development process from analysis and design to test validation.
  • Proficient in utilizing complex CFD codes along with classical analyses to rapidly develop advanced combustion systems.
  • Knowledge and practical expertise in combustion chemistry and physics.
  • Hands-on experience in test setup, instrumentation requirements, and validation of new combustion system designs.
  • Direct experience with both subsonic and supersonic engine combustion systems and augmenters is desirable.
  • Proficiency in ANSYS CFD tools for combustion applications is preferred.
  • Ability to quickly correlate analytical results with experiments and engine test data.
