About the position

The Combustion Senior Engineer will serve as an engineering leader and key contributor to Florida Turbine Technologies' combustion engineering discipline. This role involves conducting advanced design, analysis, development, and test validation of gas turbine engine combustors, working within a small, highly skilled team focused on combustion systems.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and design combustors, fuel and ignition system components to meet mission requirements.
  • Acquire or contribute to engine system level requirements and establish combustion system performance and durability requirements for the combustor.
  • Lead and conduct computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations.
  • Utilize practical, classical analyses with hands-on experiments to rapidly develop complex industrial and aero gas turbine engine combustor systems and augmenters.
  • Guide junior-level engineers in the execution of the combustion system development, design, and test.
  • Champion the development of combustion engineers, advance design processes, and design tools.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices in computational simulation of gaseous and variable viscosity liquid fueled combustion systems.
  • Take ownership of results as it directly supports the combustion team deliverables and decisions.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Engineering.
  • 8+ years of direct experience in combustion system design, analyses, and tests.
  • Self-starter with extensive experience in combustion system analysis, CFD, and test correlation.
  • Proficiency in classical combustion analyses, computational simulations, and combustor/engine testing.
  • Highly skilled in the combustion system development process from analysis and design to test validation.
  • Proficient in utilizing complex CFD codes with classical analyses to rapidly develop advanced combustion systems.
  • Knowledge and practical expertise in combustion chemistry and physics.
  • Possesses hands-on experience in test setup, instrumentation requirements, and validation of new combustion system designs.
  • Ability to quickly correlate analytical results with experiments and engine test data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with subsonic and supersonic engine combustion systems and augmenters is desired.
  • Proficiency in Ansys CFD tools for combustion applications is preferred.
