About the position

As a Site Reliability Engineer Intern at Comcast, you will be immersed in the daily operations of a leading media and technology company. This internship is designed to help you cultivate meaningful relationships, develop strong interpersonal and business skills, and gain exposure to the inner workings of a Fortune 40 company. You will work closely with Comcast's top innovators, becoming an integral part of the team and contributing to creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units. The internship program offers a unique opportunity to engage with the Content Data Services (CDS) team, which is responsible for the Video Metadata platform that powers X1, Flex, Peacock, and the future of Sky. As part of the CDS cloud infrastructure team, you will collaborate with development, network, and security teams to deliver reliable, performant, and scalable software products. This role provides hands-on experience in managing large-scale systems and prepares you for a career in Site Reliability Engineering by exposing you to real-world challenges and solutions. In this role, you will tackle interesting problems related to ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of software systems. You will contribute to the creation and maintenance of infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes. Your fresh perspective will bring new ideas and technologies to the SRE team, enhancing the visibility into the performance and health of applications and infrastructure. Your efforts will directly contribute to improving software delivery, reliability, security, and efficiency, ultimately enhancing the overall customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in managing cloud infrastructure (AWS) and on-premises data centers.
  • Provisioning and configuring new services and systems as needed.
  • Analyzing system usage trends and planning for capacity upgrades.
  • Identifying performance bottlenecks and working with teams to optimize system performance.
  • Monitoring the performance and availability of systems and services.
  • Responding to alerts and incidents promptly to ensure system reliability and uptime.
  • Documenting operational procedures, configurations, and best practices.
  • Following security best practices and assisting in security incident response efforts.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree from a United States-based college or university.
  • Rising Junior or Rising Senior only (must have a graduation date between Winter 2025- Spring 2027).
  • Returning to degree-program (for at least a semester) after the completion of the summer internship (meaning, student must be returning to school for Fall 2025 semester before graduating).
  • Available to work 40 hours per week over the course of the summer program - June 2 through August 15, 2025.
  • Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs.
  • Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting (unless virtual offering).

Nice-to-haves

  • Good understanding of operating systems (Linux/Unix), networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S), and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud).
  • Strong coding skills are essential, particularly in languages commonly used for automation and infrastructure management such as Python, Go, or Java.
  • Knowledge of tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform for automating infrastructure provisioning and configuration management tasks is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Nagios, Datadog) and logging frameworks (ELK stack, Splunk) helps in understanding system performance, troubleshooting, and incident response.
