About the position

As a Commercial Collateral Operations Specialist at First Merchants Bank, you will play a crucial role in supporting the bank's mission to be the most attentive, knowledgeable, and high-performing bank for its clients, teammates, and stakeholders. This position involves performing a variety of commercial collateral requests to assist both internal and external customers, ensuring that all tasks are executed with precision and in compliance with regulatory requirements and departmental procedures. The role requires flexibility in daily responsibilities, the ability to learn quickly, and strong multitasking skills to manage the diverse demands of the position. Your primary responsibilities will include researching commercial loans to identify collateral that needs to be released, which involves reviewing supporting documents and verifying the MAP Authority of the submitter. You will also be responsible for reviewing and processing commercial collateral requests accurately and promptly, adhering to the established service level agreements (SLA). Daily tasks will involve managing the commercial collateral mailbox, preparing collateral releases for recording, and indexing and imaging supporting documents into the OnBase system. In addition to these tasks, you will conduct semiannual audits of the stock and bond portfolio, interact with commercial customers and various lines of business to resolve escalated matters, and actively participate in team meetings and special projects. Your contributions will support the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the commercial operations department, ensuring that all workflow and performance logs are completed daily and providing backup support to the team as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Research commercial loans to identify collateral to be released by reviewing supporting documents and verifying the MAP Authority of the submitter.
  • Review and process commercial collateral requests with accuracy and in a timely manner in accordance with regulatory requirements and within our SLA (service level agreement).
  • Assist the team by working within the commercial collateral mailbox to process requests and respond to questions.
  • Prepare commercial collateral releases for recording, filing, terminating, and discharging collateral.
  • Index and image supporting commercial documents into OnBase.
  • Process incoming commercial workflow packets.
  • Perform a semiannual audit of the stock and bond portfolio.
  • Interact with commercial customers and lines of businesses on escalated matters to provide resolutions.
  • Participate in team and department meetings, discussions, special projects, and strategy sessions.
  • Complete workflow and performance logs daily.
  • Provide backup support for the department and the team as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of commercial collateral, commercial loans, commercial documentation, or related commercial experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 to 5 years of commercial collateral, commercial loan, or commercial documentation experience.
  • Working knowledge with Horizon core banking system, OnBase system, Simplifile recording system, and Wolters Kluwer Solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills.
  • Experience using various government entity recording sites, such as state and local municipalities.
