Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of Commercial Construction Portfolio Assistants to ensure the monitoring, reporting, and disbursement of construction loan proceeds operates efficiently within the construction loan guidelines of Mercantile Bank.
  • Oversee a portfolio of commercial construction projects, ensuring they align with organizational goals and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate internally with Commercial Bankers, Commercial Loan Coordinators, Risk Management, and externally with borrowers, title companies, insurance companies, and third-party inspectors.
  • Maintain a comprehensive construction monitoring program.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and workload.
  • Coach and deliver performance evaluations.
  • Meet compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist bank regulatory examiners with audits.
  • Provide training to internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate with borrowers.
  • Produce monthly/quarterly/annual reports.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of commercial lending and/or construction related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and/or a combination of experience and certifications related to the industry.
  • Previous experience with construction loan documentation and the disbursement process is strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership abilities and previous management experience.
