About the position

The Commercial Director is responsible for overseeing commercial administration in the Southwest region, focusing on customer proposals, sales supervision, and evaluating volume, mix, and margin. This role involves leading a regional sales team, ensuring productivity and quality, and maintaining high standards of customer service. The position requires collaboration with various departments to meet company objectives and improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a regional sales team, providing leadership to achieve company objectives in productivity, quality, and volume.
  • Review the region's billing register to ensure margin and volume expectations are met, developing improvement initiatives as necessary.
  • Monitor customer inventory levels with materials management and account managers to meet control goals and protect investments.
  • Resolve issues independently or collaboratively, involving the regional EVP when necessary.
  • Assist in purchasing special customer inventory to optimize turnover and return on sales.
  • Participate in senior regional reviews to ensure compliance with company policies and financial objectives.
  • Develop sales policies, goals, and objectives to maximize revenues and gross margin for the division.
  • Select, develop, and motivate employees while ensuring fair treatment within applicable laws and policies.
  • Establish and monitor marketing plans and strategies to increase market share.
  • Contact customers to maintain and develop effective business relationships.
  • Develop, monitor, and approve the sales and expense budget.
  • Assist in developing pricing and credit policies to maximize return on sales.
  • Direct the preparation of sales reports to monitor overall sales efforts and inform the Regional EVP of progress and trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 7+ years of progressive industry experience.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Broad experience across multiple product lines in the metals industry preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven track record of excellence in sales.
  • Experience leading and motivating a sales team.
