About the position

Acuity is seeking a Commercial Field Underwriter to quote and issue new commercial accounts for a selected group of committed agents. The role involves promoting Acuity's commercial products to ensure strong growth of profitable business within a designated territory, primarily in Montana, with potential expansion into northern Wyoming. The position requires regular agency visits, risk inspections, and pricing decisions to support agency relationships and business development.

Responsibilities

• Visit each agency regularly to solicit new business and enhance agency relationships.
• Inspect risks and make immediate acceptability and pricing decisions.
• Review all agency prospects submitted for underwriting.
• Make selection and pricing decisions consistent with Acuity's growth and profitability goals.
• Stay updated on company underwriting policies, procedures, and industry events.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Recommend additional coverages or options to meet insured's needs.
• Encourage and assist in the production of profitable commercial business by maintaining excellent relationships with agents and Acuity personnel.
• Operate a computer keyboard effectively.
• Travel throughout the assigned territory and occasionally to other territories as needed.
• Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record to operate a corporate vehicle.
• Ensure regular and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of five years of commercial underwriting experience preferred.
• CPCU, CIC or similar insurance designations preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively sell Acuity products.
• Ability to communicate unpopular decisions tactfully.
• Highly motivated and enthusiastic.
• Goal-oriented.
