About the position

The Commercial Insurance Underwriter at Chubb is responsible for managing a significant portfolio of mid-market multi-line commercial business, focusing on financial performance, growth, and risk assessment. This role involves developing and executing business growth strategies, managing producer relationships, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines while meeting service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manage financial performance, including profit, rate, retention, and growth of a $6.5 million book of business.
  • Achieve new business goals of $1.5 million+ annually and manage an $8 million renewal book.
  • Identify growth opportunities within new and existing production sources.
  • Develop and execute a new business growth strategy, including prospect development.
  • Build and maintain relationships with producers and customers.
  • Develop agency strategy and monitor progress continually.
  • Identify cross-sell opportunities within commercial products and services.
  • Solicit, select, and analyze risks according to Chubb's guidelines.
  • Negotiate price, coverage, and terms for new business and renewals.
  • Conduct sales presentations and product education for producers and customers.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, operations, claims, marketing, and product management teams.
  • Meet service standards consistently.
  • Collect and share industry intelligence with the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of underwriting experience preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of specialty commercial underwriting and insurance industry practices.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in handling commercial insurance lines.
  • Strong analytical skills, including financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in sales, marketing, and negotiation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing and executing marketing plans.
  • Ability to adapt creatively in a changing business environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
