About the position

The Commercial & Investment Banking Credit Officer is responsible for analyzing financial data and assessing the risks associated with extending credit to corporations and specialty purpose corporations. This role involves calculating financial ratios, performing qualitative risk assessments, and collaborating with investment bankers to evaluate loan requests. The officer prepares detailed reports on creditworthiness and manages the credit approval process while mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial data, financial statements, and historical loan collateral data to determine credit risks.
  • Calculate financial ratios and key performance indicators for credit evaluation.
  • Perform qualitative risk assessments through due diligence meetings with clients.
  • Collaborate with investment bankers to assess loan viability and structure lending terms.
  • Prepare detailed reports on risks and creditworthiness for corporate credit extensions.
  • Recommend credit decisions based on comprehensive credit reports.
  • Collaborate with legal professionals, rating agencies, and financial auditors in the credit extension process.
  • Develop and validate models to assess cash flow protection from collateral.
  • Review legal documents to ensure compliance with approved credit terms.
  • Manage the credit approval process and train junior team members.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or related field plus 1 year of experience as a Credit Risk Analyst or related occupation.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or related field plus 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in underwriting credit risk for non-recourse loans to specialty purpose corporations.
  • Experience in underwriting credit risk for recourse loans to finance companies.
  • Proficiency in calculating and interpreting financial ratios for creditworthiness assessment.
  • Ability to analyze collateral trends and performance data.
  • Experience in creating cash flow models for loss coverage and repayment ability.
  • Strong report writing skills summarizing financial ratios and creditworthiness.
