About the position

The Commercial Lender I position at Stellar Bank focuses on developing business relationships with commercial clients, primarily through loans, deposits, and Treasury Services. This role involves identifying prospective clients, evaluating credit applications, and ensuring compliance with banking policies. The lender will work closely with the Regional CEO and other Commercial Lenders to drive business growth and maintain client portfolios.

Responsibilities

  • Identify prospective clients and develop new business relationships with commercial clients
  • Examine, evaluate, and recommend approval of commercial credits
  • Identify and analyze markets to develop prospects for commercial banking
  • Actively participate in business development and networking opportunities
  • Interview customers and prospects to request specified information for credit applications and Treasury Services opportunities
  • Analyze applicant's financial status, credit, and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan
  • Compile loan package and facilitate negotiation of loan structure with applicant, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms
  • Present credits to loan committee for approval
  • Ensure loan agreements are complete and accurate according to policy
  • Assure timely loan closing and funding activities
  • Manage client portfolio to include loan exception monitoring and credit quality
  • Comply with BSA/AML/CFT and Sanctions requirements set forth by Bank Policy and Procedure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years' experience in banking relationship management role or related business lending experience
  • General knowledge of core business products and services including deposit and Treasury Services
  • Strong understanding of credit products, credit application process, and potential outcomes
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and internal partners and influence others without direct control
  • Strong written, credit analysis, and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of consistent loan and deposit production
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software.
