About the position

The Commercial Lines Underwriter/Broker position at Capstone Search Group is a pivotal role within a leading wholesale insurance broker and underwriting manager. This position is designed for an individual who possesses a strong underwriting background coupled with excellent sales and marketing skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive insurance solutions to retail insurance brokers and agents, ensuring that they can meet the diverse needs of their clients. The role emphasizes the importance of building and maintaining relationships with retail agencies, serving as the primary contact for clients, and effectively managing a book of general commercial business. In this role, the Underwriter/Broker will be tasked with creating and executing a marketing plan aimed at increasing both new and renewal business. This involves rating, quoting, and binding each risk to assess acceptability, coverage, and pricing for complex renewals and new business opportunities. The candidate will also be responsible for developing and submitting underwriting referrals to company brokerage facilities, ensuring that all underwriting processes are adhered to and that the company’s standards are maintained. Monitoring key performance metrics will be a critical aspect of this role, as the Underwriter/Broker will need to formulate corrective actions that impact new business acquisition, renewal retention, premium growth, and loss ratios. This position not only requires technical underwriting skills but also a proactive approach to client engagement and relationship management, making it essential for the candidate to be both analytical and personable.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and grow a book of general commercial business
  • Manage retail agency relationships and serve as lead client contact
  • Create and execute marketing plan to increase new and renewal business
  • Rate, quote, and bind each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing for large or complex renewals as well as new business
  • Develop and submit underwriting referrals to company brokerage facilities

Requirements

  • 3+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience required
  • Experience with Wholesale Broker required
  • Commercial Generalist background
  • Demonstrated proficiency in sales and marketing
