About the position

As a Commercial Lines Underwriter at Burns & Wilcox, you will play a pivotal role in managing and growing a diverse book of business. This position requires you to build, maintain, and enhance agency relationships while serving as the lead contact for clients. You will be responsible for creating and executing a marketing plan aimed at increasing both new and renewal business. Your expertise will be crucial in rating, quoting, and binding each risk to assess acceptability, coverage, and pricing for large or complex renewals as well as new business opportunities. In addition to these responsibilities, you will develop and submit underwriting referrals to company brokerage facilities and Burns & Wilcox management. Monitoring key metrics will be essential to formulate corrective actions that impact new business hit rates, renewal retention, premium growth, and loss ratios. As a leader in this role, you will also have the opportunity to train and develop Assistant and Associate Underwriters, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and grow a book of business
  • Manage agency relationships and serve as lead client contact

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of commercial lines underwriting or brokerage experience required, excess & surplus experience preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in sales and marketing
  • Proven organization skills and ability with a strong attention to detail
  • Interest in continued education and professional development
  • Insurance license, CPCU, CIC or comparable designations preferred
