About the position

The Commercial Loan Officer at Central Willamette Credit Union is responsible for providing ethical and professional service to members, guiding them in business services, and underwriting business loans. This role emphasizes building local loyalty and community connections while ensuring sound financial decisions for both the Credit Union and its members. The officer will engage in loan processing, portfolio development, compliance, and departmental oversight, all while maintaining a strong commitment to the Credit Union's core values of respect, integrity, ethics, compassion, and humor.

Responsibilities

  • Interview, consult, accept, analyze credit of, and perform credit reviews of potential borrowers.
  • Negotiate credit terms, prepare credit analysis, and develop repayment plans for approval.
  • Prepare Business Loan Documents and files as needed, ensuring technical accuracy.
  • Review applications and other incoming documentation for completeness and signatures.
  • Prepare loan-closing documents as needed and coordinate loan closing information.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow the commercial loan portfolio.
  • Promote business services programs by working with borrowers.
  • Work with commercial borrowers during early delinquency phases to maintain portfolio health.
  • Ensure timely and thorough monitoring of business loans through periodic reviews, ongoing analysis, and proper documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of legal entities and documentation requirements to determine loan eligibility and completeness.
  • Review rates, terms, and amounts to ensure compliance with Credit Union policies.
  • Provide regular ongoing feedback to the AVP Real Estate/Business Services regarding department activities, status, and needs.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, and maintain spreadsheets as directed.
  • Make recommendations to the AVP regarding programs, policies, or procedural changes.
  • Provide daily oversight of the Department to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all Credit Union products and services.
  • Attend training and comply with CWCU policies, procedures, and applicable State and Federal regulations.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field, or demonstrated experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years in underwriting commercial loans; 5 years preferred.
  • Excellent planning skills, both short and long term planning, financial acumen and analytical skills.
  • Strong PC knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite software and database operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work through constant interruptions.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial concepts.
  • Ability to manage schedule with minimal supervision and oversight.
  • Familiarity with ACH and merchant services.
  • Knowledge of current State, Federal, and other regulations applicable to commercial lending.
  • Ability to present a professional image to management, staff, and outside contacts.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial institution products and services, policies and procedures, remote delivery channels and member service functions.
  • Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, customer service, communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient verbal and written skills to effectively communicate in the English language.
