About the position

The Commercial Locksmith Technician at Excel Construction Services, Inc. is responsible for providing locksmith services, including installation, maintenance, and repair of locks and related hardware. This role requires proficiency in locksmith services and may involve additional construction or maintenance tasks. The technician will work both independently and as part of a team, responding to emergencies and managing daily work orders efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Provide locksmith services during normal-duty hours, with some work on evenings and weekends, responding to emergencies as needed.
  • Utilize techniques and tools to manage the successful completion of daily work orders into the billing cycle.
  • Utilize phone applications for work order dispatching, updating, and document uploads.
  • Provide recommendations regarding industry best practices for locking devices and hardware applications.
  • Maintain an inventory of truck-stock spare parts and components for all supported devices.
  • Install, repair, and re-key cylinder cores; evaluate and repair door locks; fabricate and provide maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all key locks are compatible with the existing master key system.
  • Occasionally operate or use scissor and/or boom lift.
  • Provide scope summaries with labor and material cost estimates.
  • Assess and complete or provide scope of work for various types of work orders, if applicable.
  • Possibly repair or replace window tint and assist glaziers with duties.
  • Repair frames, doors, and hardware.
  • Act as an onsite representative to provide safe access to subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Must have and maintain a current Locksmith license and be proficient in all aspects of locksmith services.
  • Experienced with most types of IC cores, including pinning and decode cores, re-keying, and producing master keys.
  • Ability to re-key desks and file cabinets and cut keys by code.
  • Experience with commercial panic/exit hardware and low voltage magnetic and cypher locks is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work with little supervision.
  • Strong hands-on construction skills in areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, and painting are a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the Operations Team regarding progress and details of completed work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with door closers and repair/replacement of low voltage systems, including electric strikes and intercom systems.
  • Ability to assemble furniture as needed.
