About the position

The Commercial Portfolio Manager 4 plays a crucial role within the client's Credit Delivery Team, working under the direct supervision of a Portfolio Group Manager, Senior Group Sales Manager, or Market President. This position is integral to managing a loan portfolio primarily consisting of Wholesale Banking relationships across various industries, including general commercial and industrial, manufacturing, distribution, professional services, and transportation. The portfolio typically encompasses complex credits with total commitments exceeding $175 million, representing 20 to 25+ relationships. The primary responsibilities include conducting credit analysis, underwriting, and ongoing portfolio management, ensuring adherence to bank policies and regulatory guidelines. In this role, the Commercial Portfolio Manager will partner effectively with Relationship Managers (RMs), market leadership, and credit officers to originate and maintain profitable relationships. Key duties involve performing due diligence, preparing credit approval packages, and conducting risk assessments for new and existing loans. The manager will also be responsible for monitoring compliance with loan agreements, preparing annual reviews to assess financial performance, and ensuring timely communication with various internal business partners throughout the underwriting and portfolio management process. Additionally, the position requires the manager to engage in client interactions, assist in preparing opportunity memos for new clients, and participate in discussions regarding credit requests. The role demands a proactive approach to monitoring client performance against original underwriting projections and conducting thorough due diligence to evaluate credit capacity and quality. The Commercial Portfolio Manager must stay informed about economic conditions and legislation affecting client relationships, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and compliant with established guidelines. Responsibilities

  • Effectively partner with RMs, market leadership, senior management, and credit officers to originate, monitor, maintain, and grow profitable Wholesale Banking relationships.
  • Perform due diligence, credit analysis, underwriting, and recommend borrower and facility risk assessment ratings.
  • Prepare credit approval packages for new and existing loans, extensions, modifications, and amendments.
  • Conduct ongoing portfolio management, monitoring, and risk management activities to ensure compliance with established credit policies and procedures.
  • Prepare annual or administrative reviews to assess client and guarantor financial performance and covenant compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with various internal business partners throughout the underwriting and portfolio management process.
  • Review and form opinions on third-party prepared due diligence documents such as appraisals and environmental reports.
  • Work with outside legal counsel in the preparation and review of loan documentation.
  • Participate with RMs in client/prospect calls to understand their business better.
  • Assist in preparing due diligence and analysis for opportunity memos for new-to-bank client relationships.
  • Monitor and resolve document exceptions that may arise during the loan agreement process.
  • Conduct appropriate due diligence and industry analysis to evaluate client and guarantor credit capacity and quality.
  • Safeguard all client information in adherence to bank guidelines and report any regulatory non-compliance.
  • Participate in special projects as needed and maintain a working knowledge of applicable banking laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field is required; a preferred degree is in a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, portfolio management, or relationship management in commercial banking.
  • Credit analysis training or certificate program, with advanced skills in underwriting larger complex commercial credits.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and personal financial statements and federal/state tax returns.
  • Knowledge of non-credit bank products and services, credit, risk management, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and financial analysis skills, with the ability to perform quick calculations using a financial calculator.
  • Understanding of lending policy, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
