About the position

The Commercial Portfolio Manager at Investar Bank is responsible for managing an assigned community bank lending portfolio. This role involves evaluating ongoing credit risk, assessing the capacity to repay loans, and ensuring the adequacy of collateral. The manager will ensure timely performance of loan obligations, including payments, collateral insurance coverage, and tax payments, while also managing deposit accounts for assigned customers. The position requires regular requests for updated financial information as dictated by loan documentation and prudent credit practices. In addition to managing the portfolio, the Commercial Portfolio Manager will conduct site visits and customer calls as necessary, regularly reviewing accounts to assess credit quality. This includes documenting the performance of obligors, evaluating collateral adequacy, and considering the impact of industry dynamics and economic events on creditworthiness. The manager will also review loan documentation for compliance with bank policies and assist customers in understanding their loan terms and conditions. The role requires assigning appropriate credit risk grades based on regular analysis, identifying early warning signs of financial or operational deterioration, and monitoring compliance with financial and non-financial covenants. The manager will also identify opportunities for additional credit or services for customers and may provide guidance to credit analysts or underwriting assistance for complex transactions. Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines is a critical aspect of this position, along with performing any other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an assigned community bank lending portfolio.

  • Identify opportunities for additional credit or services to customers.
  • Provide guidance in financial or industry analysis to credit analysts.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines.

Requirements

  • 7+ years previous banking experience with a focus on loans and deposits, preferably in a financial institution.
  • Previous Portfolio Management experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related discipline preferred.
  • Good knowledge of commercial banking, particularly commercial lending preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of computers and computer operations, particularly MS Office software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to perform detailed tasks with accuracy.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment including computer, ten key adding machine, typewriter, fax machine, scanner, and copy machine.
