About the position

The Commercial Underwriter - Account Executive at Travelers Insurance Company is responsible for managing the profitability, growth, and retention of a designated book of business within a specific territory. This role involves underwriting new and renewal business, developing relationships with agents and brokers, and collaborating with other business units to achieve market penetration objectives. The position requires independent management of the assigned territory while occasionally seeking assistance for more complex accounts. The incumbent will not have direct reports but may coach less experienced staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites primarily moderately complex accounts and risks to maximize profitability.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with agents and brokers to write and retain accounts.
  • Employs consultative marketing and sales skills to market products to agents and brokers.
  • Identifies and captures new business opportunities and effectively cross-sells products.
  • Negotiates skillfully in difficult situations to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Develops and executes plans to meet business objectives and anticipates underwriting problems.
  • Fosters collaboration within the business unit and assists less experienced employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2 years of Account Executive underwriting experience required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant Account Executive experience typically expected.
  • Previous auto line and Trucking/Transportation underwriting experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license or alternate means of personal transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPCU designation preferred in some lines of business.
  • Experience working with Fleet (11+ Power Units) preferred.
