About the position

The Commercial Underwriter and Portfolio Manager at Raiz Federal Credit Union is responsible for underwriting business and commercial loans, particularly those secured by real estate, exceeding $250,000. This role involves preparing underwriting summaries, assisting commercial lenders with loan presentations, and analyzing financial packages of new and existing loans. The position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex financial information effectively. The individual will also oversee the maintenance of the business loan portfolio and mentor team members.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze financial statements for loan presentations.
  • Assist commercial lenders with loan committee presentations.
  • Perform financial statement spreading and analysis on new and existing loan relationships.
  • Evaluate creditworthiness of borrowers and guarantors by assessing cash flow and debt serviceability.
  • Conduct market analysis for each loan presentation based on the industry of the proposed borrower.
  • Calculate financial ratios based on financial statements and data provided.
  • Provide recommendations to commercial lenders regarding loan structures, payment plans, and interest rates.
  • Ensure compliance with credit union policies and applicable regulations.
  • Communicate with borrowers, guarantors, and accountants to gather additional information and interpret financial statements.
  • Support cross-selling efforts and solve problems related to credit union services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience, preferably in the banking industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of credit products and commercial lending policies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong business writing abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with knowledge of pivot tables.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous credit union experience is a plus.
