About the position

The Commercial Underwriter I position at Society Insurance focuses on developing and maintaining a profitable book of business primarily consisting of small-business accounts in the Wisconsin territory. The role involves acquiring, evaluating, and analyzing information related to risks to make informed selection and pricing decisions, while also building and maintaining professional relationships with agents and Regional Sales Managers.

Responsibilities

  • Acquires, evaluates, and analyzes information relative to risk to make selection and pricing decisions.
  • Evaluates renewal and new business accounts for acceptability.
  • May have sole responsibility for agencies as assigned according to territory needs.
  • Builds and maintains positive professional relationships with agents and Regional Sales Managers.
  • Analyzes risk control surveys; identifies opportunities to maximize profitability; and mitigates risks and exposures.
  • Builds and executes an annual agency management production and profit plan for the assigned underwriting territory through phone contact, written correspondence, and on-site visits with agents and insureds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, or related field OR 3+ years of commercial underwriting experience with accounts similar to Society's core products.
  • Basic competency with desktop applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
