About the position

The Commercial Underwriter II position at Society Insurance involves developing and maintaining a profitable book of business primarily focused on small-business accounts. The role requires acquiring, evaluating, and analyzing information related to risks to make informed selection and pricing decisions. The underwriter will work with various types of businesses, including bars, restaurants, and contractors, while building positive relationships with agents and providing mentorship to team members.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire, evaluate, and analyze information related to risk to make selection and pricing decisions.
  • Evaluate renewal and new business accounts for acceptability.
  • Manage assigned agencies according to territory needs.
  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships with agents and Regional Sales Managers.
  • Analyze risk control surveys to identify opportunities for profitability and mitigate risks.
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, or related field and 3+ years of commercial underwriting experience, or 5+ years of commercial underwriting experience with similar accounts.
  • Continuing education in the insurance field and earning designations.
  • Proficient in using desktop applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with underwriting bars, restaurants, breweries/wineries, food manufacturing, contractors, habitational, grocery, auto repair, lessors risk, retail, and wholesale accounts.
