About the position

The Commission Analyst (Analyst II) position at the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) involves supporting a Commissioner in both adjudicatory and non-adjudicatory proceedings. The role requires monitoring proceedings, gathering and organizing information, conducting research, and preparing documents to assist the Commissioner in making informed decisions. This position is crucial for ensuring that the PUC effectively regulates utilities and facilities in Colorado, promoting safe, reliable, and reasonably-priced services.

Responsibilities

  • Support a Commissioner in adjudicatory and non-adjudicatory proceedings.
  • Monitor the Commissioner's proceedings, including all information filed into the record and stakeholder comments.
  • Gather and organize all filings and information needed for the Commissioner to make informed decisions.
  • Conduct background research on relevant topics and cases.
  • Identify trends and connections with other cases and summarize findings in memorandums.
  • Prepare documents for the Commissioner's use in preparation for hearings and meetings.
  • Synthesize and analyze pertinent information relevant to assigned subject areas.
  • Ensure deadlines related to research projects are met and resolve any roadblocks.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time professional work experience conducting research on new and emerging topics.
  • Experience providing descriptive analyses and summaries of research findings to decision-makers.
  • Associate's Degree with three years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's Degree with one year of relevant experience.

  • Experience working in state government on complex topics related to laws and regulations.
  • Experience managing and synthesizing large amounts of research data.
