About the position

The Commissioner of Health and Human Services is responsible for overseeing public health initiatives, enforcing laws and regulations, and managing the department's budget. This position requires collaboration with various municipal and state agencies to promote public health and human services. The role includes emergency preparedness, community needs assessments, and the development of new public health programs based on consumer feedback. The Commissioner will also monitor quality assurance indicators and administer grants to support departmental operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties and direct services and programs related to public health protection, disease control, and environmental protection.
  • Oversee the enforcement of state and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Develop and administer the department's operating budget.
  • Coordinate with municipal and state agencies on public health initiatives.
  • Direct emergency preparedness issues regarding public health.
  • Conduct research on new public health programs based on consumer interests.
  • Develop and monitor quality assurance indicators for public health services.
  • Identify, apply for, and administer department grants.
  • Conduct community needs assessments to ensure programs meet consumer needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in medicine, public health, public administration, or a related field.
  • At least two years of full-time experience in a responsible position in public health or health care services.
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 111, and the Massachusetts Sanitary Code.
  • Knowledge of planning, supervising, and evaluating community-based public health programs.
  • Considerable knowledge of disease control methods and safety precautions.
  • Must pass a Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check.
  • Valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
