About the position
The City of Binghamton, New York is currently searching for an individual to lead the City's Department of Public Works. The location is ideal, at the confluence of the Chenango and Susquehanna Rivers, in beautiful upstate New York, just 45 minutes from the Finger Lakes and 3 hours from New York City. Binghamton is a small city, but offers many of the social, cultural and recreational opportunities of a larger city. The City of Binghamton Government provides a wide array of services, including roadway and building maintenance, engineering, water and wastewater, refuse collection, street lighting and signals. The Department of Public Works maintains approximately 150 center line miles of roadway for 48,000 residents, plus a growing student population from Binghamton University, consistently rated as one of the best public colleges in the nation.
Responsibilities
- Managing a workforce of 161 employees.
- Providing daily leadership for all aspects of the department
- Managing an annual operating budget of $14 million
- Managing an annual capital budget of $10 million
- Employee/union relations
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering, Construction or a closely related field
- Minimum of ten years of experience in a leadership role in public works
- Experience in a union environment
