About the position

The Commissioning and Startup (C&SU) Planner is responsible for preparing, scheduling, and coordinating the commissioning and startup activities of a project. This role is essential for ensuring that commissioning activities align with the overall project timeline and budget, while also identifying potential delays and bottlenecks. The C&SU Planner collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to facilitate a smooth transition from construction to operational status.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed commissioning and startup schedules, integrating them with the overall project timeline.
  • Create work breakdown structures (WBS) and task sequences to ensure efficient workflows and resource allocation.
  • Regularly update the C&SU schedule to reflect progress, resource adjustments, and changing project requirements.
  • Determine and plan for required personnel, equipment, and materials for each phase of commissioning.
  • Coordinate with procurement and resource teams to ensure necessary resources are available when needed.
  • Monitor daily commissioning and startup activities, capturing progress data and updating schedules accordingly.
  • Create and maintain tracking reports to highlight completed tasks, upcoming activities, and any potential schedule deviations.
  • Identify and document potential risks that could impact the C&SU schedule, including equipment delays, resource shortages, and technical challenges.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, and construction teams to ensure alignment of commissioning and startup activities with other project phases.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of schedules, progress reports, resource utilization, and any changes to the plan.
  • Work closely with quality assurance teams to confirm that all commissioning activities meet project and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, or a related technical field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, or related roles within the commissioning or construction industry.
  • Proficiency in project management software such as Primavera (P6), MS Project, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze project data, identify trends, and develop solutions for potential issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage complex schedules with multiple dependencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with team members, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve issues that could impact the project schedule.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications in project scheduling, such as PMI-SP (Project Management Institute Scheduling Professional), or knowledge of industry-specific commissioning processes.
