About the position

The Associate Commissioning Engineer - BESS position is responsible for managing the commissioning and start-up activities for utility battery energy storage system (BESS) facilities. This role involves overseeing site commissioning personnel, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and coordinating with various stakeholders to facilitate the successful turnover of projects to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee site commissioning personnel and ensure QA documentation is assembled for client turnover.
  • Track site commissioning activities and report to supervisor and client.
  • Support safe energization of electrical equipment as per procedures.
  • Coordinate with discipline engineers for interconnection and documentation requirements pre and post construction.
  • Support site turnover and O&M documentation.
  • Organize site commissioning managers' tasks and deliverables.
  • Coordinate onsite plant commissioning and performance testing.
  • Establish and ensure compliance with Safety Tagging, Lockout & Work Permit Program.
  • Develop the Punch List with the Construction Manager prior to system/equipment release to Commissioning.
  • Implement project-specific commissioning plans and coordinate pre-commissioning activities handover documents.
  • Schedule O&M training with the Owner's Operations Department.
  • Support field specialists and vendor representatives in commissioning and testing activities.
  • Manage warranty requests for completed project sites.
  • Operate company vehicle to oversee site operations.
  • Attend work regularly and punctually as scheduled.
  • Comply with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.
  • Promote a safety and quality-oriented attitude and report unsafe conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 2+ years of experience with electrical utility scale commissioning personnel and activities preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience with Battery Storage utility scale commissioning preferred.
  • Familiarity with NERC guidelines and various ISO and TSO organization requirements preferred.
  • Familiarity with DCS / SCADA control systems for utility scale Battery Energy Storage Systems preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and integrate contract documents and technical drawings.
  • Intermediate knowledge in utility scale battery energy storage facility testing for EPC or Utilities in the U.S. preferred.
  • Field construction, commissioning, and startup experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of NFPA/NEC standards, NESC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE/IES/API Standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to assist in the development and interpretation of project schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with personnel and clients.
  • Commercial performance knowledge of Battery Storage System.
  • Ability to obtain a valid, current passport for travel outside the U.S.
