About the position

The Commissioning Engineer II at QTS is responsible for overseeing the commissioning of various systems within data centers, including electrical, mechanical, and building management systems. This role involves managing commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and serving as a liaison with third-party commissioning agents. The position requires significant travel and may involve working nights and weekends to support construction and commissioning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all site construction activity and installations, ensuring adherence to operational standards.
  • Develop comprehensive commissioning plans for various systems including electrical, mechanical, and building automation components.
  • Conduct thorough commissioning activities to ensure systems are installed and validated according to standards.
  • Identify, track, and resolve issues during the commissioning process, collaborating with the project team.
  • Create and review detailed commissioning documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Witness testing of equipment during commissioning and validate operational documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of systems during commissioning.
  • Implement quality control measures to meet regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Develop and test site-specific standard operating procedures and emergency response procedures.
  • Provide training to end-users and maintenance personnel on commissioned systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of work experience in data center engineering, commissioning, or project management.
  • Background in building maintenance, CCTV, access control systems, network, telecommunications, or fire detection systems.
  • Ability to travel to other Data Center locations as required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • US Citizenship required due to federal customer contracts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Firm understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment related to data centers.
  • Knowledge of electricity and medium to low voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with emergency backup systems like generators and UPS.
  • Experience with mechanical cooling solutions such as Chillers and CRAC units.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance, single line drawings, and sequence of operations.
