About the position

The Commissioning Engineer IV at KFI Engineers plays a crucial role in the successful execution of commissioning, re-commissioning, and energy audit projects. This position involves providing technical expertise and oversight to ensure that building systems and equipment meet design specifications. The role also includes project management responsibilities, marketing activities to support business development, and staff management, making it essential for the candidate to have a strong background in HVAC and building operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct building performance evaluations and audits, including commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning activities.
  • Execute HVAC functional tests, including point verification and sequence tests.
  • Create and execute/witness tests for electrical, lighting, life safety, fire protection, or plumbing systems.
  • Participate in construction meetings and direct commissioning meetings, recording action items for stakeholders.
  • Perform construction inspections to ensure MEP installations conform to project documents.
  • Conduct Test & Balance (TAB) measurements, primarily in retro-commissioning applications.
  • Write and assemble technical reports for commissioning projects.
  • Act as a Project Manager, developing project plans and securing resources.
  • Perform design reviews from a commissioning standpoint for new construction projects.
  • Manage financial aspects of assigned projects, including budgets and invoicing.
  • Train less experienced staff in commissioning and re-commissioning tasks.
  • Contribute to business development by building relationships and supporting new opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of direct HVAC, building operations, or construction experience.
  • Experience using AutoCAD.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for work-related travel.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design experience.
  • Working experience with Revit.
