About the position

The Commissioning Engineering Technician will be part of the Building Engineering team at Gresham Smith, focusing on assessing and improving the efficiency and quality of structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in various facilities. This role involves participating in commissioning activities, preparing project-specific scopes, reviewing documents, and coordinating site visits to ensure compliance and performance standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project-specific commissioning scope of services and assist in budgeting.
  • Provide peer review of documents for constructability and commission-ability.
  • Prepare commissioning plans (pre-functional checklists and functional performance tests) and review plans for completeness.
  • Review contractor submittals for compliance to contract documents.
  • Schedule and coordinate commissioning site visits and deliverables for projects.
  • Travel to active project sites to perform commissioning activities in a safe and professional manner.
  • Compose and issue commissioning site visit reports.
  • Review trends for performance and sample TAB reports.
  • Review training and O&M materials provided by contractors.
  • Prepare final commissioning reports for projects.
  • Assist in design/design assistance activities and perform Construction Administration for Gresham Smith designs.
  • Review Gresham Smith's mechanical sequences of operations and details for optimal performance and implementation.
  • Perform due diligence studies on existing buildings.
  • Participate in contract bidding and administration.
  • Observe the ongoing progress of a project and assist in the coordination of projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants, and firm staff.
  • Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate to the project.
  • Assist in resolving a variety of complex problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working for a mechanical contractor.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical system installation and operation with building automation system interface.
  • Ability and willingness to train others in all activities listed.

Nice-to-haves

  • CxA certification is preferred or willing to obtain one.
  • P.E. preferred but not required.
