About the position

We are seeking a Commissioning and Start-Up Engineer for either Houston, TX or our Allentown, PA global headquarters. This role will provide Commissioning & Startup Leadership support to new plants, retrofit projects, and turnarounds from development to startup. The engineer will also support asset management and productivity initiatives for all America's Projects through the coordination of activities from the engineers and operations teams stationed at plants. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a safe work environment for themselves and others, employing good housekeeping methods, and demonstrating leadership with all company and industry safe work processes to prevent injuries. Proper documentation must be maintained for safety-related activities. The position will primarily support Hydrogen Electrolysis processes but may also involve other technologies such as Air Separation, HYCO, Helium, Gasification, and Ammonia. Key responsibilities include commissioning and starting up units as prescribed by Work Instruction Procedures, being a member of the field leadership team to plan, manage, and prepare equipment and systems for first-time startup, and developing work processes and strategies for field construction and commissioning of rotating equipment. The engineer will also need to understand PLC and DCS controls, logic, PID tuning, and advanced control systems, and will lead support contractors and personnel to properly install and startup equipment. Additionally, the engineer will provide commissioning support in new installations, existing plant modifications, ongoing operations, and continuous improvement and maintenance activities for the facilities in the Region. They will ensure that all activities meet legal requirements and comply with Air Products safety and operations standards. Mentoring site operations and engineering teams in managing plant production efficiently is also a critical part of the role, ensuring safety and reliability targets are met to achieve maximum profitability. The engineer will provide Commissioning, Startup, Operations, and Technical Sales Support to the Equipment Sales & Product Services Team for new installations, existing plant modifications, ongoing operations, and continuous improvement and maintenance activities for Air Products joint ventures, sale of equipment, and potential new customers in the Region.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Engineering graduate (bachelor's in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering as a minimum preferred).
  • 12 years of Operations, Commissioning, Startup or Engineering in a technical or plant role.
  • Demonstrated 'hands-on' ability to operate, commission, startup, troubleshoot, and repair various plant related issues.
  • Experience and knowledge in the technology, design, and operation of Hydrogen Electrolizers, Chloro - Alkili and/or PEM process.
  • Knowledge in additional technologies such as Air Separation, HYCO, Gasification, Sulphur Recovery & Helium process systems preferred.
  • Strong background in all aspects of operating facilities including machinery, instrumentation and controls, electrical, mechanical systems, and advanced controls across multiple technologies.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, interpret design curves of field machinery, & function checking of field equipment.
  • Field construction and commissioning experience desired.
  • Knowledgeable in process safety, health, and local environmental requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge in additional technologies such as Air Separation, HYCO, Gasification, Sulphur Recovery & Helium process systems preferred.
