About the position

The Commissioning & Startup Engineer at Air Products will provide leadership support for commissioning and startup activities for new plants, retrofit projects, and turnarounds. This role focuses on ensuring safe operations and compliance with safety standards while coordinating activities among engineering and operations teams. The engineer will primarily support Hydrogen Electrolysis processes and may also engage with other technologies, contributing to asset management and productivity initiatives across the Americas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and maintain a safe work environment for self and others, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Commission and startup units as per Work Instruction Procedures.
  • Plan, manage, and prepare equipment and systems for first-time startup as part of the field leadership team.
  • Develop work processes and strategies for field construction and commissioning of rotating equipment.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of PLC and DCS controls, logic, PID tuning, and advanced control systems.
  • Lead and support contractors and personnel in the installation and startup of equipment.
  • Mentor site operations and engineering teams to optimize plant production and ensure safety and reliability targets are met.
  • Provide technical support for new installations, existing plant modifications, and ongoing operations for Air Products joint ventures and potential new customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 12 years of experience in Operations, Commissioning, Startup, or Engineering in a technical or plant role.
  • Hands-on ability to operate, commission, startup, troubleshoot, and repair plant-related issues.
  • Experience with Hydrogen Electrolyzers, Chloro-Alkali, and/or PEM processes.
  • Knowledge of Air Separation, HYCO, Gasification, Sulphur Recovery, and Helium process systems is a plus.
  • Strong background in operating facilities, including machinery, instrumentation, controls, and advanced controls across multiple technologies.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, and interpret design curves of field machinery.
