About the position

The Commissions Analyst will play a crucial role in the finance team by ensuring the accurate and timely calculation, processing, and reporting of commissions for sales teams. This position requires strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of sales compensation structures, along with effective collaboration across departments to maintain smooth operations and accurate reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately calculate and process commission payments based on predefined commission structures and performance metrics.
  • Ensure commission payments are compliant with the sales compensation plan and contractual agreements.
  • Work with sales leadership to resolve discrepancies or questions about commissions.
  • Maintain detailed records of commissions paid and relevant transaction data in internal systems.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc commission reports for management and sales teams.
  • Provide insights and analysis on sales performance, trends, and commissions payouts.
  • Collaborate with IT or systems administrators to maintain and optimize commission tracking tools or software.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in commission calculations and reporting.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for sales teams regarding commission-related inquiries, issues, or discrepancies.
  • Work closely with HR, Finance, and Sales Operations teams to ensure accurate data transfer and alignment between systems.
  • Provide training and guidance to sales teams on understanding commission plans and how commissions are calculated.
  • Conduct regular audits of commission calculations and payouts to ensure compliance with company policies and contractual agreements.
  • Assist in preparing for internal and external audits related to sales compensation.
  • Ensure adherence to legal, tax, and regulatory requirements surrounding commission payments.
  • Provide support for special projects or initiatives related to sales compensation and commissions.
  • Analyze trends, identify anomalies, and recommend adjustments or improvements to compensation plans or processes as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a commissions analyst, sales operations, or finance-related role.
  • Strong understanding of sales compensation structures, incentive plans, and commission calculation processes.
  • Experience with commission management systems or CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Xactly, NetSuite) is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Familiarity with tax regulations and payroll processes related to commissions is a plus.
