About the position

The Commodity Inventory Control Manager at Mastronardi Produce is responsible for overseeing the commodity department's operations, ensuring that departmental goals related to inventory management, product quality, and customer service are met. This role involves close collaboration with various teams, including operations, sales, and logistics, to maintain inventory freshness and minimize waste. The manager also plays a key role in training staff and maintaining compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve departmental goals including rejection percentage, inventory freshness, timely allocations, minimize dumps/donates, and increase percentage from inventory.
  • Work with the Operations team to communicate daily Production and Sales Order allocations.
  • Ensure all sales orders are allocated through inventory or production to meet customer service objectives.
  • Maintain an inventory plan for the 0-3-day horizon, tracking inbounds, production plans, and forecasted sales.
  • Routinely check product quality in inventory and at receiving.
  • Coordinate and assist in communicating customers' expectations with the commodity team, Production, and Shipping.
  • Maintain regular communication with Commodity Planners, Production Schedulers, Commodity Inventory Controllers, and Production Managers.
  • Maintain regular communication with Receiving and Logistics, focusing on load priorities and product specifications.
  • Suggest disposal/movement of surplus commodities in a timely manner to Sales.
  • Verify GMP and Organic compliance in assigned areas.
  • Communicate missed quality issues with procurement and quality to implement NCs.
  • Liaise between sales and commodity operations to ensure customer expectations are satisfied.
  • Coordinate all sample requests through MPL-2 for all commodities.
  • Coordinate DNS/Blowout/Dump product lists daily for all commodities.
  • Train new hires for the Commodity Inventory Controller positions.
  • Participate in the interview process for the Commodity Inventory Controller position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in the produce industry preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership of the job.
  • Comfortable making decisions and handling multiple projects with effective time-management skills.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel) and willing to learn NAV, JDA.

  • Experience in inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of GMP and Organic compliance standards.
